Chainmail Info & Care

Materials & Info

For chainmail Turkish Velvet uses two materials, one is an alloy of aluminum known as Bright Aluminum that is shinier and stronger than regular aluminum. It is lightweight, hypoallergenic, and tarnish-free!

The other material used for chainmail is Stainless Steel, an alloy composed of chromium, titanium, and nickel. Yes (!) it contains a small percentage of nickel, so those with a nickel sensitivity should consider other metals. Compared to Bright Aluminum, Stainless Steel is tarnish-free and heavy duty -- it can truly last a lifetime. When comparing color, the silver tone of SS is slightly deeper than Bright Aluminum rings, which can be a matter of preference.

Some may notice a black rub-off where Bright Aluminum has touched their skin -- this is because your jewelry can pick up dirt, oil, and even odors. This black rub-off is non-toxic and can be prevented in the future by simply regularly cleaning your jewelry, especially after a hot, sweaty day.
